Pre & Post Care
Clear, practical guidance for before and after your cosmetic medicine and skin treatments. Read this before your appointment and keep it handy in the days that follow.
Why this matters
How you prepare for your appointment and how you care for your skin in the hours and days afterwards directly affects how well your treatment works and how comfortably you recover. These guidelines are here to help you get the most from every visit.
If you have questions about anything on this page before your appointment, text us on 0487 194 898 or email embraceskinandinject@icloud.com.
Before your appointment
Please read these instructions carefully before your cosmetic medicine appointment.
Avoid blood-thinning medications if possible for approximately 2 weeks prior to your appointment. This helps minimise the risk of bruising at the treatment site. If you are on prescribed blood thinners, please discuss this with your treating nurse before your visit.
If you are prone to cold sores, please advise your nurse ahead of your appointment. We will not treat an area that is currently affected by an active cold sore. Your nurse can advise on appropriate timing.
You cannot be under the age of 18 to receive medical cosmetic treatments at Embrace Aesthetics and Skin. This is a firm requirement, not a guideline.
You cannot receive medical cosmetic treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Please inform your nurse if your circumstances have changed since you booked your appointment.
Before your appointment
Avoid other skin treatments within the last fortnight before your appointment. This ensures your skin is in the right condition to respond well and helps prevent over-treatment.
Let your clinician know about any current skincare products you're using — particularly actives such as retinol, AHAs, or BHAs. This helps your clinician tailor the treatment to what your skin can safely receive on the day.
After your appointment
The hours and days after a cosmetic medicine treatment are important for your results and recovery. Follow these guidelines closely.
Avoid heat-inducing activities such as pools, saunas, spas, and excessive exercise for the day of your treatment. Heat can increase swelling and affect the settling of product.
Avoid excessive alcohol consumption the day prior to and the day of your treatment. Alcohol can increase the likelihood of bruising and slow recovery.
Avoid touching the treated area excessively in the hours after your treatment. This reduces the risk of moving product and minimises the chance of introducing bacteria to the site.
Await 24 hours prior to applying heavy makeup. Light mineral makeup is acceptable in the meantime if needed.
Ice can be applied for bruising and swelling. Paracetamol is suitable for pain relief. Arnica cream or arnica tablets may assist with bruising. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen unless prescribed.
Avoid touching any lumps or bumps you notice until 2 weeks after your treatment. Minor irregularities in the first two weeks are a normal part of the settling process.
Swelling, bruising, a mild headache, and redness are all normal responses after cosmetic medicine treatments. These generally resolve within a few days.
Avoid other skin treatments and waxing until the treated area has fully healed — typically between 3 and 14 days depending on the treatment and your individual recovery.
Contact us immediately if you experience severe pain, severe swelling, pale skin, or mottled bruising at the treatment site. These symptoms require prompt attention. Text 0487 194 898 or present to your nearest emergency department if you have concerns about your health.
After your appointment
Skin treatments benefit from a gentle, supportive routine in the days that follow. Give your skin time to respond.
Avoid heat-inducing activities — including hot showers, exercise, saunas, and direct sun exposure — for 24 to 48 hours after your skin treatment. Heat can cause sensitivity and compromise your results.
Avoid AHA/BHA exfoliants and retinol/Vitamin A products for 3 to 7 days after your treatment. These actives can irritate recently treated skin and delay healing.
Use basic, gentle cleansers and moisturisers in the days after your treatment. Now is not the time for complex layering or new products — give your skin space to settle and respond.
